MECHANIC FALLS, ME – Recently, the Town Council of Mechanic Falls unanimously approved an agreement to work with RTE Energy Solutions to upgrade their 102 streetlights to energy-efficient LEDs.
RTE plans on replacing equipment on the poles and providing a 10-year maintenance program which would result in a total savings of $335,693 over a 20-year period.
Mark Carter, RTE's Vice President of Smart Solutions, noted that Town has spent over $19,400 for over 60,000 kilowatt-hours per year. By upgrading to LEDs, it would drop their consumption to 16,000 kWhs at an annual cost of $4,500.
RTE is proud to have worked with over 45 Maine communities, including Auburn, Oxford, and Norway, to improve their municipal lighting saving them significant energy costs, improving public safety, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and beautifying their streetscape.
Vic Hodgkins, Town Manager of Mechanic Falls, said that Central Maine Power owns the poles and charged the Town about $20,000 yearly for the lighting equipment. Although CMP would change the streetlights to LEDs with a 15-year contract, the Town Council believes RTE Energy Solutions offers more savings in the long run.
